Depression

Major depressive disorder (MDD), or clinical depression, is a serious, long-lasting form of depression that affects more than 264 million people worldwide (World Health Organization, 2020).With rapidly growing numbers of those struggling with depression, it is imperative that we continue to research and explore possible ways to help reduce the impacts.

Depression can be triggered by a variety of factors, including: abuse (emotional and/or physical), aging, medications, relationship conflicts, death or the loss of a loved one, gender (women are twice as likely to become depressed, perhaps due to hormonal differences), genetics, major life events, personal issues, illnesses, injuries, and substance misuse.

Many patients have fluctuations of depressive episodes in which they have fatigue, brain fog, body aches, lethargy, negative thoughts, mood swings, poor eating habits and more. For some, these episodes can be severe enough to negatively impact daily life.
